College Launches Record Label

22 Apr 2004

Richard Huish College in Taunton have started their own record label called Studio 6 with all the signed bands coming from the college's Vocational A Level in Popular Music course.

Michael Eavis was there to help launch the label at Virgin Megastore in the centre of Taunton in March. Store manager John Timney (himself a drummer), said “We are delighted to be involved with this initiative – it is very exciting to access and encourage so much original student music covering so many genres of Popular Music achieved by the signing of the bands to the label. The 5 track CDs will sell at only £5 making them affordable to the young buying public. Naturally the products will be available throughout our national network of shops.”

Michael Gillett of Studio 6 and a music tutor at the College said “getting a recording and publishing deal is the aim of all aspiring young musicians. Following our success at Glastonbury last year with Ryleys Second Skin, it became clear that we needed to take this step to provide the final chapter in the development of our young musicians, studying on the A level course.”

The public can access Studio 6 via the label web site on www.studio6sounds.com, where samples can be downloaded. All the latest information and forthcoming signings are on the site.
