Energy Advice comes to Glastonbury
24 Jun 2004In previous years those wandering the Greenfutures Field seeking practical advice on utilising renewable energy amongst all the grand demonstrations will have noticed an unfilled niche.
This year, for the very first time, Glastonbury has an on-site Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (EEAC).
Fortuitously the South Wales Eco Centre, which runs the Mid and South Wales EEAC and who’s staff make up the core of the on-site advice team, owns a mobile education unit, ideally suited to the role of festival stand.
Within the unit the solar-powered – wind-up radio, faithfully proclaiming Radio Avalon, is just one example of a practical application of renewable technology that can be used in any home.
There is also an eye-catching wind turbine and a solar water heating demonstration, providing electricity and hot water for the team. “It’s important that the demonstrations are of renewables that can be used in people’s own houses,” on-site adviser Ross explained to me.
“We would advise people to make their home more energy efficient first,” added his colleague Annie. The advice centre has a wealth of literature, all free, designed to enable people to do just that. Many energy efficiency measures cost little or nothing to implement and all will save you money on your fuel bills.
Anyone who could not make it to the festival this year but would like free and impartial energy efficiency advice can contact their local EEAC free on 0800 512012 or can log on to www.saveenergy.co.uk.
