Camper Vans - Updated Message
24 Jun 2003UPDATED CLARIFICATION
16:44 Tuesday 24th June '03
There has been some confusion but it is important to note that commercial vans are not classified as camper vans unless they have been converted for sleeping in. As such a standard empty transit does not qualify to be parked in the camper van field. The definition of a camper van includes that it is visibly fitted for living in - including features such as a sink in the living space, or an obvious sleeping area – checks will be made to ensure only legitimate vehicles will be let park in the campervan fields.
You will not be allowed to sleep in your vehicle in the car parks. If you have no tent there are numerous places you can buy one on site. You can go to Millets in E4 Market, Joe Bananas for Blankets or many other great and reputable suppliers. Or you could just not sleep, though this is not advisable for your health!..
So long as it is clear and obvious that you intend to stay in your vehicle and that you have the appropriate equipment, there will be no issue.
If it is concluded that your vehicle is not a campervan you will not be allowed into the campervan field. However sensible discretion will be used, and so long as you help the people who are trying to do their job to help you, we will all be happy. Remember to always follow the instructions of the traffic management staff and camping stewards, and if it's hot please don't get hot headed. You might have been sat in traffic for 2 hours, but the person who is directing you may well have been working since dawn.
Please come and enjoy the festival in the campervan and caravan fields, and we look forward to bringing you news of how it all went...
