Prize-winning Stalls
29 Jun 2003The markets contributed enormously to the success of the festival. So many of the traders put in tremendous efforts to have interesting and well presented stalls. Every year in order to recognise the exceptional quality of the many market traders and to encourage that effort Glastonbury Festival award a prize for the best stall at the Festival.
The prize is a certificate from Michael Eavis; crate of Bagborough English Table Wine, bottled in Somerset; and a voucher to come back for half the price of the stall next year.
The Winner in 2003 of the "Best Stall at the Festival" was "La Grande Bouffe" in the corner of the OneWorld field, for their "wonderfully presented stall with excellent food".

La Grande Bouffe was originally established and then toured in the Haute Savoie region of France – the home of their top-selling dish “La Tartiflette Originale”. They combined the excitement of a ‘live’ food environment with the charm of a French market, building their kitchen of giant pans from which their French regional specialities are served directly to the customer.
Mahalah from the main markets office presented the certificate to Miles and Cecille, who thanked their customers for their support and invited them around to join in the celebrations (did they really mean that?!).

The best new stall this year, was the Carom Association based near the Bandstand. Carom is an ancient board game which was found in stone in an Abyssinian tomb about 2000 years ago and is believed to be the inspiration behind billiards and snooker. It is an ancient game of strategy and cunning. The association set up nine boards and provided players with chai and Indian snacks.
Other stalls which were highly commended by the market staff were:
The Café in J3 market, run by Chris Gilles of the Lock Tavern and 586 Pub Company Ltd in London – smooth sounds, a chilled atmosphere, music into the night and fair trade coffee – a worthy successor to the Rizzla tent.
Sun Dried Tomatoes in the E2 markets – provided a wonderfully warm Mediterranean feel and great food. Some of the pasta sauces and minestrone soup are to die for!

Kozy Kitchen in I market, down from the meeting point – has outstanding quality chicken tikka marinated to their own recipe. There’s always a queue and it’s always worth the wait!
Moussa in the Green markets near the Tiny Tea Tent was simply a stunning sight. A wonderful Moroccan tent ablaze with lanterns. Crammed full of Moroccan crafts, drums, textiles and ceramics, run by lovely people playing really good music.
