Lost Vagueness

Big Caravan

27 Jun 2003

Seven strangers, twelve hours, eight cameras, one caravan...

Festival goers who fancy themselves as an alternative, Nush or Federico may well be tempted to enter the Big Caravan, a minimalist Big Brother style reality game show set in a caravan in the Lost Field.
Though a jovial chap called Si talks me through the concept, it is actually the brainchild of, well a child. Si’s young son Jay takes the credit for the original idea.

He is as enthusiastic as his dad about the prospect of the on site social experiment that lies ahead.
“Auditions are Friday night from midnight in the Lost Field chapel,” Si informs me with a grin. “We’re looking for a cross section of people. We’ve already had a dippy hippy in a mushroom hat and a man of God put themselves forward.”

There will be tasks, a diary room, nominations, everything you might expect from the format. And yes, just like the real thing, the contestants will be plied with plenty of free booze to help things along. All of which shenanigans will be broadcast live in the Lost Chapel from midnight on Saturday for twelve hours until only one sorry soul remains in the splendid isolation of victory.
