Glastonbury - The People's Opinion!

27 Jun 2003

The Glastonbury Festival attracts people from all walks of life - different shapes, sizes, colours and backgrounds. So, to give you a taste of what they are like, the Culture Magazine team have interviewed a small cross section to show you!

Nick Clark aged 17 from Hertfordshire. It’s his first time at Glastonbury this year!

What you like most about Glastonbury?
Basically seeing all the bands and taking in the atmosphere.

What’s worst thing for you about Glastonbury?
The toilets – they are revolting!

Which band are you looking forward to seeing most?
Saw The Darkness this morning, they were great! I am also looking forward to seeing Cooper Temple Cause and Electric Six.

Charlotte and Eleanor are both aged 18 years old and from Cambridge. It’s also their first time at Glastonbury but both of them are pretty clued up with the whole festival experience:

What do you think about the Glastonbury Festival so far?
The atmosphere here is about 10 times better that any other festival that we have ever been to!

What do you look forward to most about Glastonbury?
Just relaxing and having a good time! We’ve just finished our exams - so we are celebrating!

What’s the worst thing you’ve seen at Glastonbury?
Well, the toilets are not as bad as the Reading Festival but I suppose it was the pooh smear! But there is nothing that we dislike.

Who are you looking forward to seeing?
RADIOHEAD!! We’ve also just seen Mew and they were great!

Groovy UV are first time traders at this year’s Festival. They are actually two different companies - one from Brighton and one from Southend - that join forces for different festivals. The clothing that they sell can be described as fun, funky, original and best of all most of it is recycled (although you would never know).

So it is your first time trading this year – how is it all going? And when did you arrive?
Really well, it’s a lot of fun! And we arrived on Monday afternoon!

What do you look forward to most at Glastonbury?
The people, you know, everyone coming together for the same thing. Everyone wandering around. Some people go really overboard with their creativity. People can relax and be themselves. You know, humans should be communicating with one another – that’s what it is all about.

So, if you get some time off who are you looking forward to seeing?
Leftfield and the older kind of Dance stuff. But - time off? We’ll be lucky.

Vicky Lawrence aged 26. Working backstage on the parking control for all of the artists and guests. This is her second year working on the festival and she would definitely be back.

What do you look forward to most about Glastonbury?
Just chilling out for a week to be honest!

Do you have any funny or horrible Glastonbury tales?
Not much this year but it is early days. Last year I saw a young lady being rocked back and forth in a Portacabin and it going over on top of her! It really wasn’t very nice.

Who are you looking forward to seeing most?
David Gray: and the time is already booked off!
