Same song, different artist

28 Jun 2003

On Saturday afternoon, the estimable Wall Of Sound artist Mekon DJed in the Dance Tent. Very enjoyable he was, too, with his warm, inviting, mid-paced breakbeat.

4pm is something of a graveyard shift in the Dance Tent, however - the sort of people who really go for it in there tend to get into their stride later in the day.

But Mekon got everyone dancing when he played his magnum opus: Royksopp's remix of his track Please Stay. Which brought back wonderful memories of Royksopp themselves playing the same track when they appeared live on the Other Stage on Friday.

Please Stay is one of my favourite tracks ever. But is it a Mekon or Royksopp track? Apparently, Thom Yorke wants other bands to play Creep, so that Radiohead don't have to. Two enterprising bands could generate vast amounts of publicity by swapping repertoires. How about it?
