Jazz World review
Zuco 103

It was all going off Brazilian style on the Jazz World stage as the first afternoon of the festival started gathering momentum. Zuco 103 may hail from Amsterdam but their groove was all downtown Sao Paulo, as lead singer Lillian Viera lead her troupe of comrades through a storming set that might have started slowly but finished on a peak of fevered samba boogaloo. Two drummers, bass guitar, DJ and keyboards were enough to bring the carnival atmosphere to the heart of the festival. Premiering tracks from their recently released album the sound was a mix of thick electronics, batucada percussion, and throbbing bass. Letting the grooves loosen up, and ignite the crowd's dancing, DJ Record traded off the bongos for a scratch-n-beats showdown on a deep funk groove. With the World Cup final happening tomorrow this was always going to be a Brazilian party and Lillian made sure the crowd would only be cheering for one team in the final. Ending the set with fast and furious Latin house groove Lillian sang an understandably biased chorus of "Brazil! Germany!" - the former getting a hand sign for "4 goals", the latter getting"0", the victor here however were Zuco 103.
